M.I. Myocardial Infarction. The term means heart attack. It describes the death of the heart muscle (not all of it but a part of it) due to lack of oxygen as a result of ischaemia. The word 'infarction' comes from the Latin 'infarcire' meaning 'to plug up or cram.' It refers to the clogging of the artery that results in a lack of oxygen to part of the heart muscle (the myocardium).
